On January 5, 2009, the principals of ProVia Door in Sugarcreek, Ohio announced they have successfully purchased the assets of Heartland Building Products (HBP) in Booneville, MS, from Jancor Companies, Inc. as well as two separate manufacturing facilities in Olive Branch, MS and Macon, MS.

In late October, production ceased at these three facilities, and days later their parent company, Jancor, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This action resulted in the loss of nearly 400 jobs in these Mississippi communities. In an economy when company cutbacks and shutdowns have become prevalent, the news of the HBP shutdown left employees with little hope of reopening.

However, the principals of ProVia Door, in light of their financial strength and debt-free position, began proceedings to purchase the assets of HBP soon after the bankruptcy was announced. News came today that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court has approved the purchase of these assets and the transaction will be completed in a number of days.

According to ProVia President & CEO, Bill Mullet, “The quality and reputation of the products manufactured by the fine people at HBP reflect the high standards that our organization has maintained. We look forward to the revitalization of these products and services by integrating our philosophy of doing things ‘The Professional Way’. We are excited about rehiring many of the HBP employees to build a team that can effectively support the Heartland products.”

ProVia’s Vice President of Business Improvement, Brian Miller, has facilitated the negotiations, and is leading the revitalization process. A fast-track timeline has been established to resume production in the Booneville siding manufacturing facility within the next week. According to Miller, “The people at Heartland bring a great deal of value to the overall quality of the company. After spending considerable time meeting many of the people I am convinced their ethics reflect that of ProVia. Through their help we will be able to resume operations very quickly.”

ProVia Door began over 30 years ago in Sugarcreek, Ohio as Precision Entry. In 1995, they purchased Sugarcreek Window & Door to form Sugarcreek Industries. In 2002, the company started their Monarch IG facility which produces insulating glass units that are used by the other companies. On January 1, 2008, the company rebranded all of their facilities under the new corporate identity of ProVia Door. This new name more accurately communicates the longstanding commitment to producing professional-class products for which the company has become known. Heartland Building Products began in 1981 as a sub-division of PVC pipe producer H & W Products in Booneville, MS, and the following year became an independent vinyl siding production facility. In 1988 Heartland was purchased by Red Path Industries, and the following year they joined the Jannock family of siding, brick, roof and window companies. In 1999, Heartland became a charter member of Jancor Companies, Inc. which specialized in window, siding, fence, deck & rail, and PVC extrusion products.

Recognizing the positive brand equity in the Heartland name, ProVia will rebrand the company from Heartland Building Products to Heartland Siding. ProVia plans to build upon the solid tradition of excellence and innovation Heartland established nearly three decades ago.
