Stertil-Koni proud of one of their own

 

Stertil-Koni honors and congratulates Douglas Grunnet, the President of Stertil-ALM. Doug was recently appointed to a one year term as Chairman of the Automotive Lift Institute, a prestigious professional association of American and Canadian lift manufacturers. As many of you know, Doug is the head of the Streator, Illinois division of Stertil-ALM and serves as the US production arm for Stertil-Koni (the sales organization with headquarters in Stevensville, Maryland).

Both organizations (the production arm and the sales arm) of Stertil-Koni are major supporters of the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI)-whose mission is to promote safety and quality in the US lift marketplace.

This position is particularly significant since it recognizes the lifetime achievements of Doug Grunnet. He graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1965 and attended Memphis State University. He joined the Navy, serving his country as a flight engineer in a Naval Air Heavy Patrol Squadron. He flew combat missions in Viet Nam, with additional deployments in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean.

In 1973 he began his career in manufacturing with Tuscarora Plastics of New Brighton, PA. His responsibilities there included production management. Doug was ultimately elevated to Plant Manager for one of fourteen manufacturing locations. He left Tuscarora Plastics to start ALM/Automotive Lifts & Machinery Corp. in 1981. ALM Corp. was formally organized in December, 1982 importing product from Europe, establishing a sales and service organization throughout the United States. In 1986 his attention turned again to manufacturing, and in December, 1987, ALM moved into a newly built facility and began manufacturing 2 and 4 Post lifts for the domestic automotive repair market.

ALM joined the Automotive Lift Institute in 1989. Mr. Grunnet became active in the Engineering and Safety Committee and was nominated as Safety Committee Chairman in 1994, having lead responsibility for the development of ANSI Standard AOLIM-2000, Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance for Automotive Lifts, which was adopted in 2000. Mr. Grunnet also held positions on the Board of Directors for ALI, and ultimately held position of Board Chairman from 1994 - 1997.

The appointment to Chairman of ALI also serves to recognize the fact that Stertil-Koni has come full circle-first as a foreign based heavy-duty lift supplier and now finally as a US based provider of mobile lifts, heavy-duty platform lifts, and in-ground type ECO scissors lifts.
