3. EXECUTION

3.1. EXAMINATION
3. 1.1 Examine surfaces to receive work of this Section and report any defects which may affect the work of this
Section.
3.1.2 Verify that openings are ready to receive the work of this Section.
3.1.3 Confirm compatibility of surfaces to receive firestopping and smoke seal materials. 3.1.4 Beginning of
installation means acceptance of (existing surfaces) (substrate),

3.2 PREPARATION
3.2.1 Examine sizes and conditions of voids to be filled to establish correct thicknesses and installation of materials. Ensure that substrates and surfaces are clean, dry and frost free.
3.2.2 Prepare surfaces in contact with firestopping materials and smoke seals to manufacturer's instructions. 3.2.3 Mask where necessary to avoid spillage and over coating onto adjoining surfaces; remove stains on adjacent surfaces.
3.2.4 (Install damming materials).
3.2.5 (Install clips and retainers for mineral wool insulation),

3.3 APPLICATION
3.3.1 Install firestopping and smoke seal material and components in accordance with ULC listing and manufacturer's instructions.
3.3.2 Seal holes or voids made by through penetrations, poke-through termination devices, and unpenetrated openings or joints to ensure continuity and integrity of fire separation.
3.3.3 Apply (in sufficient thickness to achieve rating) (to a thickness of(______) mm ((______) in.), to uniform density and texture. 3.3.4 Provide temporary forming as required (and remove forming only after
materials have gained sufficient strength and after initial curing.) (Damming materials not to be removed).
3.3.5 Tool or trowel exposed surfaces to a neat finish where required,
3.3.6 Remove excess material promptly as work progresses and upon completion.
3.3.7 Protect installed material until cured or set.

3.4 CLEANING
3.4.1 Clean adjacent surfaces of firestopping and smoke seal materials.

3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
3.5.1 Notify Consultant when ready for inspection and prior to concealing or enclosing firestopping materials service penetration assemblies.

3.6 SCHEDULE SPEC NOTE:
Schedule firestopping and smoke seal materials at openings and pentrations in fire-rated assembli either in specification or on drawings. A typical schedule follows:
3.6.1 Firestop and smoke seal at:
3.6. 1.1 Pentrations through fire-rated masonry. concrete, and gypsum board partitions and walls.
