PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 WORK INCLUDES
A. Furnish prefabricated, pre-engineered aluminum glazed structure (Solarium).
1.02 REFERENCES
A. Conform with the following codes, specifications and standards. (where applicable)

1.03 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Deflection - All load bearing members under any design load combination (including deadload) shall not exceed 1/180 of its clear span. (See note for clarification)
B. Air Infiltration - Complies with testing per ASTM-E283.
C. Static water resistance - Complies with testing per ASTM-E331.
D. Dynamic water resistance - Complies with testing per AAMA-501.1.
E. Wind loading - Withstands wind loads based on ANSI-A58.1/ASCE-7 guidelines.
F. Live/snow loading - Withstands vertical roof loads based on the greater of 20 psf live load or roof snow loads based on ICBO/BOCA/SBCCI guidelines.
G. Condensation resistance - Complies with CRF Class C55 per AAMA 1504-88 standard.
H. Thermal transmittance - Complies with a U-Class U70 per AAMA 1504-88 standard.
1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings.
Submit for Architect’s review and approval prior to fabrication, including pertinent details for installation, anchorage of framing members, glazing, sealing, flashing and adaptation of systems to specific project.
B. Engineering Calculations.
Submit engineering calculations to the Architect, stamped and certified by a Registered Professional Engineer attesting adequacy of system to meet required loads.
1.05 SAMPLES
A. Submit corner sample to represent minimum quality of work.
B. Submit 12" long glazing bar to represent color of aluminum finish.
1.06 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver materials to jobsite in manufacturer's packaging.
B. Store off ground in a dry covered area, protected from weather conditions.
1.07 WARRANTY
A. Provide complete manufacturer’s warranty; 5 years on defects of materials and 1 year on labor.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

2.02 MATERIALS - SOLARIUMS
A. STRUCTURE
1. Frame: Main glazing bars shall be 2.0" wide and either 3.2", 4.2", or 5.2" deep. Structural engineering shall determine the size of glazing bar per application.
2. Structural Sections: Shall be extruded aluminum 6063 alloy.
B. GASKETRY
1. Gaskets shall be EPDM and compatible with all contact materials.
C. FASTENERS
1. Components, fasteners shall be stainless steel ASTM standard A276.
2. Lag screws shall be plated low carbon steel.
D. SILICONE SEALANT
1. Silicone sealant shall meet or exceed federal specifications TTS-001543A.
2. Sealants shall match color of adhering surfaces, as approved by the Architect.
E. GLAZING
1. Insulated glass units (IGU) shall be 1" overall thickness.
2. Overhead Glass: Fully tempered 1/8" outboard lite over 1/8" fully tempered inboard lite. 1/4" laminated inboard lite is optional.
3. Vertical: Fully tempered 1/8" outboard lite over 1/8" fully tempered inboard lite. (Bent glass same as vertical.)
4. IGU shall be dual sealed (except Heat Mirror™) and carry CBA rating as certified by Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC).

2.03 FABRICATION
A. All major assembly holes for weepage and location shall be pre-drilled in factory.
2.04 FINISH
A. All visible aluminum extrusions shall be exterior grade PPG Duracron/Polycron paint finish and shall meet or exceed the physical test requirements of AAMA specifications 603.8.
B. Paint finish shall be electrostatically applied, and baked.
C. Standard Colors: Quaker Bronze or White.
D. Other finishes available.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSPECTION
A. Solarium contractors shall examine surrounding structure and the conditions under which the work is to be performed, and notify the General Contractor and Architect in writing of any conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of job. Solarium erection shall not proceed until any and all unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in an acceptable manner to the solarium contractor.
B. Surrounding and attaching structures. (basewall, building wall, etc.) shall be plumb, level and square, plus or minus 1/4".
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Shall be in accordance with manufacturer's installation instructions.
3.03 FINAL CLEANING
A. After each work day, leave immediate area neat.
B. Remove excess sealant compounds from aluminum and glass surfaces promptly after completion.

(Note for clarification only, not part of specification) "Deflection is the amount a structural member will bend or "give" under load. The building codes usually limit deflection to L/175 of the total span under design loads. Framing that deflects beyond this limit is considered "less than firm" and may cause seal failures and glass breakage."
